WarPigs, an international collaboration between 3 Floyds Brewing Co. and Mikkeller started in Copenhagen back in 2015, brought its signature beers to the U.S., launching in Chicago this June. Now, WarPigs’ beer brands are being distributed across the Midwest in Indiana and Wisconsin, and, starting today, in Minnesota.
Debuting August 24 at the State Fair, Minnesotans can get their hands on WarPigs’s flagship IPA, Lazurite, at the Ball Park Cafe. According to the Chicago Tribune, with 3 Floyds Brewing Co. already brewing at full capacity at its Munster, Indiana—based production brewery, WarPigs beers are being contract brewed at Great Central Brewing Co. in Chicago and Wisconsin Brewing Co. in Verona, Wisconsin.
This weekend also marks the return of Surly’s former head brewer Todd Haug, who left the company and was hired by 3 Floyds back in October 2016. Haug will make an appearance at the Ball Park Cafe on Friday, August 25 from 2–5pm. Along with 3 Floyds co-founder Nick Floyd and head brewer Chris Boggess, Haug oversees the brewing of WarPigs brands at the contract facilities.
In addition to his State Fair appearance, Haug will be performing with his metal band, Powermad, at WarPigs’ official launch party at the Triple Rock Social Club on Sunday, August 27 at 6pm. The event will be the first chance to try two other WarPigs beers, beside Lazurite IPA, that will be coming to market: Salmon Pants Lager, a full-flavored, hoppy premium lager; and Foggy Geezer Hazy IPA, a hazy, dry-hopped IPA.
After the launch party, Lazurite IPA will be found on draft in the Twin Cities and in towns south of the metro area. Salmon Pants and Foggy Geezer will be widely available on tap starting September 25. Lazurite and Foggy Geezer will launch in six-packs of 12-ounce cans on October 2, and Salmon Pants will launch in six-packs of 12-ounce cans on November 6.
