Yes, there may be a mid-April snowstorm rapidly barreling toward us, threatening to dampen our spring fever and trigger our freshly dormant seasonal depression.
But! The Current and the Walker Art Center have announced a stellar lineup for this year’s Rock the Garden on June 29, blessing us with something nice and warm to hold onto as we endure the last blows of winter. (Quick aside: I’m cooking up a conspiracy theory that HBO is behind this “storm” in perfectly timed coordination with the Game of Thrones premiere—Growler Nation, please discuss.)
This year’s Rock the Garden will be headlined by indie-rockers The National, with assists from Aussie rock queen Courtney Barnett and L.A. punk gods X. Also performing on the main stage are the Har Mar Superstar/Sabrina Ellis’ project, Heart Bones, and local rapper Dem Atlas.
Local indie-rockers Bad Bad Hats will hit the Garden Stage, along with blues-rocker Adia Victoria out of Nashville and energetic pop-rock outfit The Beths, all the way from New Zealand. Here’s a full schedule of the day:
2:30pm – Dem Atlas
3:45pm – Heart Bones
5:15pm – X
7pm – Courtney Barnett
8:45pm – The National
4:35pm – The Beths
6:20pm – Adia Victoria
8:05pm – Bad Bad Hats
It’s a strong lineup featuring some beloved RTG alumni (lookin’ at you Barnett), as well as some fresh talent. Tickets are on sale now at $69 for MPR and Walker members—tickets for the general public ($74) will be available starting at 10am on Thursday. VIP passes—which get you access to the air-conditioned skybox, drink tickets, free food, and festival merch—will be sold for $300.
