With over 150 breweries now pouring their beer in Minnesota, there’s always something new to try. To keep you up-to-date, we present The Mash-Up—our weekly rundown of new beers and seasonal releases in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. Visit every Friday for the latest or sign up for a weekly email.

If the steady below-freezing temperatures and dark commutes home didn’t already point to the fact that winter is fast approaching, this week’s beer releases surely will. The new beer lineup is dominated by big, bold barleywines, imperial stouts, and strong porters from the likes of Broken Clock, Pryes, and Bauhaus.

The skies aren’t always gray and the temperature isn’t always below 32, though, which is why other winter beers aren’t quite so heavy, like Brooklyn’s seasonal Winter Lager or Town Hall’s Grinch’s Grog.

While it’s hard to look past the cold, it’s also anniversary week at 10K and Insight (with special beer releases at each), and there are many other styles available across the state, ranging from juicy IPAs to tart kettle sours and much, much more.

Each week, The Growler’s editorial team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers hitting taps and store shelves that we’re most excited to try.

Available on Saturday, November 17, Steel Toe will release a limited barrel-aged wee heavy both on draft and in bottles. There will also be two varietals: cacao with vanilla, and cherry.

Hoops Brewing #500 India Pale Cream

Fermented first with lager yeast then finished with ale yeast, this is a hoppy cream ale, pouring at 7.6% ABV, 89 IBU with a creamy mouthfeel, the brewery adds.

Duluth’s first cidery opened its doors this week with seven options on tap, all made with 100% Minnesota apples. The cidery says Zenith is a dry Chardonnay-like cider with hints of oak, lemon, and butter.
