The Happy Gnome’s Fire & Ice Bar Welcomes Crashed Ice Fans

Red Bull's Crashed Ice

Red Bull’s Crashed Ice 2013

Red Bull is back in Minnesota for the third time to host Crashed Ice on the steps of the St. Paul Cathedral, Friday and Saturday February 21–22. Crashed Ice is an outdoor extreme skating competition where athletes strap on their hockey skates and race down a steep 1,410-foot ice track, reaching speeds over 40 miles per hour. Throughout the course there will be hairpin turns, jumps, step-ups, obstacles, and gaps. Four skaters will compete in multiple heats to determine the winner. For the official schedule of Crashed Ice scroll to the bottom of this page.

The Happy Gnome, local craft beer bar and restaurant in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood, will welcome Crashed Ice fans onto their patio, in classic Minnesota tradition, to enjoy their unique Fire and Ice Bar on Saturday at 7pm. They will have Widmer Brrr on draft, Surly beer in cans, 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey, and of course, Red Bull. As if that isn’t enough to keep you warm, dancers from Dragons Fire Theatre will be spitting, eating, and playing with fire. Music will be provided by DJ Beak Nasty.

“With thousands of Crashed Ice fans making the trip to the Cathedral Hill neighborhood, we want to make sure that they have a wonderful and memorable time,” said Ryan Huseby, general manager of the Happy Gnome.

Food will be served inside the restaurant and regular bar areas, both on the main floor and in the upstairs Firehouse Room. While the Fire and Ice Bar and regular indoor bar areas are first come first served, reservations are recommended for the dining rooms. Admission to the Fire and Ice Bar will be free and first come first serve to anyone ages 21 and over. Festivities begin at 7pm on the 22nd.
