Ahh, spring. It’s a time for rebirth, rejuvenation, and having a good sweat in a mobile sauna in the parking lot of a brewery.
The 612 Sauna Society has teamed up with the Little Box Sauna for a March “residency” at Dangerous Man Brewing, and all kidding aside, 612 Sauna Society founder John Pederson says that spring is his favorite time to use a sauna.
“These mild springs days are my favorite time for sauna because it’s perfect weather for a gradual cool-down between sauna rounds,” Pederson wrote on the 612 Sauna Society’s blog. “A gradual cool-down gives your body a chance to fully recalibrate between the hot and cold. In my experience, the relaxation after a full, gradual cool-down is the deepest and longest-lasting of all sauna highs.”
Reservations are currently available for March 18-20 for one-and-a-half-hour time slots. The cost is $16, though there’s a discount available for residents of the NE Minneapolis Sheridan neighborhood. Organizers are also looking for volunteers to help out with small housekeeping tasks (i.e., refilling water, keeping the fire going, etc.).
The 612 Sauna Society “helps people—around the world—waste time with dignity by improving access to Nordic sauna culture.” The Little Box Sauna was “conceived, designed, built and deployed in 2015 as an experimental Creative Placemaking project, through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and Bloomington Theatre and Art Center, and additional support from Mall of America and IKEA.”
