The full list of exclusive and limited release albums that will be on sale for Record Store Day 2016 was announced today, ratcheting up the excitement music fans are feeling around the world for April 16.
According to its website, Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1,400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today there are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica.
The list of records that will be available at independent record stores on April 16 are split between exclusive releases, limited run / regional focus releases, and ‘Record Store Day First’ releases.
Some of the notable exclusive releases, which are not available anywhere but Record Store Day participating stores in the same format, are Africa Bambaataa “Planet Rock,” Alt-J “Live at Red Rocks,” The Animals “Animal Tracks,” three different David Bowie records, Sex Pistols “Never Mind the Bullocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,” and Willie Nelson and Uncle Tupelo, to name just a few.
