With summer just around the corner, Afton Alps is inviting Minnesotans to trade in skis for mountain bikes on June 3 when they open a new single track mountain biking course.
This is the first time that Afton Alps has opened the property to mountain biking since it discontinued its mountain biking program four years ago. The new course is mainly the same footprint as the old course, though new portions have been added.
The soon-to-be open bike course in Hastings is a five-mile, intermediate-level single track course, with a variety of off-shoots with varying degrees of difficulty, as well as elevation changes, including some black diamond sections, or advanced portions. Parts of the track that are intermediate to advance, will pave a path with off-cambers, rock gardens, and log piles to bring thrills to the trek.
The grand opening party is June 3 from 10am to 6pm, and will feature a DJ, bike demos, food and drink specials, and a new patio for bikers to enjoy. Day passes to use the course are $7 and can be purchased onsite.
For those curious about mountain biking but concerned with their lack of experience, Northstar mountain biking will host clinics for women on June 5 and 12 from 6 to 8:30pm ($65) and for men on June 7 and 14 from 6 to 8:30pm ($65). A clinic for intermediate bikers looking to unlock further skills will be held July 25 from 6 to 8:30pm ($35).
