5 great under-the-radar beer cities

Of course Boston, but… Portland, Maine

Boston may be synonymous with craft beer thanks to Boston Beer Company and Harpoon Brewery, but beer drinkers should take note of what’s brewing in Portland, Maine.

Not only is Allagash making some of the finest Belgian-style beers in the country, raking in 15 GABF medals since 2002, but this seaside town of 60,000 is also home to Liquid Riot Bottling Company, Shipyard Brewing, Rising Tide Brewing, and Peak Organic Brewing—all within walking distance of each other. Add to that harbor views and the freshest seafood money can buy, plus more breweries like Sebago Brewing and Maine Beer Company just miles from downtown, and it’s easy to see why Portland should be your next beer adventure.
